Making Space In Your Garbage Can

After we started cleaning out our basement, I was blown away with the amount of trash that we came across. There were loads and loads of extra items that we didn't need anymore, and it was really frustrating. I started focusing on making more space in our trashcan, and I was really impressed with how much extra room a few smart moves made. We started nesting garbage items inside of paint buckets, and breaking down boxes carefully. This blog is dedicated to helping homeowners to make better use of the space they have inside of their trashcans. You never know, you might be able to enjoy more free space inside of your home.

Moving When You Have A Ton Of Junk

Blog

Junk has a way of accumulating, even when you are trying your best not to let it accumulate. Day to day, your junk may not seem like a big problem, but when you decide to move, you suddenly start to wonder how to handle all of it. The good news is that you're not alone. Plenty of people who have too much junk successfully move to new homes, and there are even professionals who can help with this endeavor. Here are some tips that should come in handy along the way.

Get on a moving company's schedule early

Even if you end up getting rid of a lot of your junk before your move, you will likely have more stuff to move than the average customer. So, make sure you start calling around to moving companies early. You want to get on their schedule soon to ensure they have the trucks, boxes, and workers to handle your move. Let them know that you have more stuff than average, and give them an idea of the types of things you have. This will allow them to give you a more accurate quote.

Look for movers that also offer junk removal

Running a moving company requires a lot of the same equipment and skills as running a junk removal company. As such, there are some companies that offer both services. See if you can find one. This approach allows you to have one company come in, remove a bunch of your junk, haul it away, and then move what's left. This is often easier than trying to schedule a junk removal service and a separate moving company, back to back.

Be there to dispose of things as your movers work

In most situations, movers are able to pack up your things and move you without you being present. But when you know you have lots of excess stuff, it's helpful to be present when the movers are working. When you see them go to pack something you know is junk and that you don't want to keep, you can intercept the item and toss it out. You may want to have a dumpster on-site on your moving day to make this easier.

Moving when you have a ton of junk does require a little extra effort and attention to detail. But if you follow the tips above, it should not be that hard.
